The Duke

Well one day a woman that works with my wife came to her with the cry for help. And so the story of duke starts. This lady tells my wife her dog had puppies 13 of them .With that being said she tells my wife that its been 5 days and now the mother has killed one pup and wont feed the others. This has left her with 12 pups to feed and she cant do it. Than it came, the question please can you take one puppy. So on January 9 2005 it came to be this little very cute puppy with a 5 gallon head on a 1 gallon body.Duke was 7 days old and still needs a lot of attention he had to be bottle feed every 2 hrs.
Now with my wife working in a hospital it was not possible. But as with most things my wife always looked to me as i worked for my self.So hear I sit in the middle of a very cold January driving around in my old Chevy van with my helper, my best friend Kramer (my dog) and in the box 7 day old duke.So with feeding him every 2 hours I came to the conclusion what goes in must come out. Thus I ended up with the task of caring for Duke and the never ending poop this is also how Duke got his name witch started his name as all he did was shit every where (DUKIE) it was.
Now just a thought about Duke. from day one Duke was the mouthiest little dog I ever seen. This cute little puppy would murr growl snarl and use his paws and put up a fuss at every feeding.Duke is now a very well adjusted 90+ pound alpha male at the ripe old age of 6. Duke has shown that he knows how big he is but with a very high level of tolerance of all the foster dogs that we bring in to our house . He has been attacked several times and not once did he ever not respond to my verbal commands and touch. All I have to say is thank god he knows I am alpha.I have on many occasions have watched not only my dog wrestle but fosters to go at it like the fall brawl cage match and bump him and nip at him and he just sits there. When the wrestling gets to loud aggressive or just to nasty sounding he will throw his weight around. One of his favorite things is to jump in the middle with loud growl and throw his head side to side . This is 9 out of ten time to put everything to a complete stop.
I hope as I define my blog I will post more about my dogs, there personality's and how I find each of my dogs have become very important in what I do with Wet Nose Rescue.
